Drop-Top Hummer to Make Detroit Debut

Auto supplier American Specialty Cars (ASC) is getting into the Hummer craze with their version of the Hummer H3 — two new open-top concept Hummers that will please anyone who likes their sun while driving.

ASC says the Cosmos has a fabric-top system that can open the truck’s cabin to the elements or cover just the passenger or cargo areas. ASC’s second concept, which has yet to be announced, will feature a panoramic sunroof.

Hummer Moves Ups in NADA Poll

The Hummer was No. 13 in last year’s NADA (National Automobile Dealers Association) poll, which surveyed 21,000 dealers about their satisfaction with various car brands.

This year the Hummer has risen to No. 3, according to Automotive News. The only two brands topping the Hummer? Lexus and Toyota.

The Hummer’s popularity is due to the popularity of the H3, which has sold like hotcakes in 2005.

GM to build more H3s, midsize pickups

DETROIT — General Motors Corp. plans to increase production next year of its smallest Hummer, the H3, and its midsize pickups in expectation of increasing sales for the trucks, the automaker said.

With gas prices hitting record highs this year, some consumers have shifted from large SUVs and full-size pickups to smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles such as the H3 and the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks.
