GM Sales Drop, Hummer Sales Increase
General Motors Corp. said Monday that its U.S. vehicle sales dropped 24.1 percent in September as sales of its Chevrolet brand dove nearly 28 percent.
Excluding heavy trucks and its Saab division, the automaker sold 342,814 vehicles, down from 451,729 a year ago.
Overall, car sales fell 14.5 percent and light truck sales — which exclude heavy commercial vehicles — tumbled 30.1 percent.
Chevrolet-brand sales tumbled 27.5 percent to 205,238 vehicles, and GMC sales dropped 40.7 percent to 37,233 units. Buick and Cadillac also posted declines larger than 15 percent, and Pontiac sales slipped 2.1 percent to 41,597 units.
Only the company’s Saturn, Hummer and Isuzu brands posted an increase. Saturn sales grew 7.6 percent to 18,569 vehicles on strong results for the new Vue model, while Hummer sales more than doubled to 5,806 units and Isuzu sales rose 12.7 percent to 1,152 units.
