Hummer Owners Help Katrina Relief Efforts
What are Hummers good for, you ask? How about getting into spots where ordinary cars, even military ones, can’t?
That’s what is happening in South Bend, Indiana, where local Hummer owners, along with 13 other groups from around the country, are volunteering to take their H2′s (and some H3′s) down to Mississippi to help the Red Cross get supplies to people that can’t be reached.
From the article:
As a part of the Hope program, Hummer owners are prepared for emergencies and are actually certified by the Red Cross and can use their own Hummers to help in natural disasters.Simon explains, “The Hope program has come about because they are no other vehicles to get the Red Cross into areas in a time of need like we are in right now.”
For Hummer owners, it’s a chance put their SUV’s to work, while helping people at the same time, as Foster explains, “It gives us an opportunity – without writing a check – to put the money out and go and support our country and support people in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama that need our help and use trucks for what they are designed to do.”
So the next time some idiot complains about your Hummer, just point him to this story.
