Is the British Pinzgauer Superior to the Hummer?

Apparently yes — or at least according to some New Zealand dorks.

This from Reuters:

Following exposure with the New Zealand military in Afghanistan, a British off-road vehicle has been officially rated as superior to the famous American HumVee (the military-spec Hummer).

The British-made Pinzgauer, according to the New Zealand defence chief, “goes further, takes more cargo and its reliability has proved to be quite outstanding,” If Pinzgauer sounds like an odd name for a British vehicle, it is because it was originally designed by Austrian company Steyr-Puch in the 1970s. For the last few years, the rights have been owned by a UK company, ATL.

While both the Pinzgauer and the HumVee were both built to meet military requirements, it is surprising that a 30 year-old design can still out-perform the HumVee, supposedly the last word in military transport.

So not an official test, just what some New Zealand military guy thinks. Bah. Give me a Hummer over a “Pinzgauer” anyday.
