2005 HUMMER H2 SUT the Target of Vandalism by Eco Nuts

Leave it to “open-minded” environmental activists to show you just what being close-minded is like up close and personal. Here’s an article about some guy in Washington, D.C. who had his 2005 Hummer H2 SUT vandalized by a couple of “eco thugs” one night, just a scant 5 days after the poor guy bought the truck. A list of the damages they caused included:

All the windows were worked over with baseball bats, most of the lights were taken out (police believe a machete was used for that) and all four tires were knifed. In a parting shot, the crew scratched “FOR THE ENVIRON” into the paintwork, showing that they either got scared off early, ran out of bodywork to write on, or are illiterate morons.

Basically, we know more than you do, and if you don’t agree with us, we’re going to get violent. These people actually calls this being open-minded and caring, but history calls them fascists.

Hummer.com is the Most Useful Site for New Car Buyers

J.D. Power and Associates released their 2007 report on the most useful automotive websites for new car buyers, and Hummer.com (home of, of course, GM and the Hummer trucks) came up on top. So how did Hummer did? It ranked highest with an index score of 870 on a 1,000-point scale — a 5-point improvement from Wave 1 of the study, which was released in January 2007. Coming in a close second was the Toyota website with 858, followed by Jeep (856), Suzuki (855), Land Rover (854), and Lexus (853).

Says the ranking about the Hummer site (via):

“A continuing focus on clear, simple navigation and crisp images and videos that demonstrate both the appearance of HUMMER’s models, as well as the features included in them, allow HUMMER to regain the highest ranking for usefulness among automotive manufacturer Web sites,” said Steve Witten, executive director of marketing/media research at J.D. Power and Associates. “This is the third time that HUMMER has achieved the difficult feat of outpacing the industry since the brand was first included in the study five years ago.”

Way to go, Hummer guys!

The 2008 Hummer H3 Alpha SUV Gets a V-8 Engine

Love the H3 Alpha SUV but don’t dig the lack of power? Well you’re in luck. For 2008, General Motors is equipping the 2008 version of their popular H3 Alpha SUV with a V-8 engine. That means a new 5.3-liter, small-block V-8 that will yield 300 horsepower and 320 foot-pounds of torque at 4,000 rpm.

The new 2008 version also comes with standard four-speed automatic transmission, leather seat trim, shiny, chrome-covered exterior accents and power front seats, and will cost you about $8,615 more than its 2007 version, bumping the price up from $30,695 for a base, 2008 H3 with five-cylinder engine and manual transmission to $39,310 for the 2008 version.

More from the AP on the 2008 H3 Alpha:

The new H3 engine - a version of the capable V-8 that’s in Chevrolet’s Silverado full-size pickup truck - makes the H3 seem sprightly and energetic, even on hilly mountain roads.

The test H3 Alpha got up to speed swiftly, with confident, pleasing engine sounds all through the acceleration, which, by the way, is estimated at a commendable 8 seconds for 0 to 60 miles an hour.

Yet, in city traffic, the V-8 idled smoothly, the transmission moved through the gears virtually imperceptibly, and the vehicle merged and traveled with other vehicles easily.

Hummer H4 to Run on Diesel Fuel or Ethanol Blends

I’m always a little amused and slightly irritated when people mention the words “Hummer” and “Green” in the same sentence. Can you REALLY have one WITH the other? Or maybe the better question is, WHY would you want to? I’m not saying we should all go out and trash the planet, but what the hell is the point of driving a monster like the Hummer if you’re going to be going nuts over the environment every other day? Anyways, the latest news from GM is that they plan to make the Hummer H4 Green-friendly.

Here’s the news from the Daily Green:

General Motors will build new Hummers that run on diesel fuel or ethanol blends, and unveil a more fuel-efficient H4 as part of its response to finger-pointing as the environmental bad boy and impending new fuel economy standards.

The Senate has already backed an increase to fuel efficiency that would require GM to boost the average economy of its fleet from about 25 mpg to 35 mpg. The gas-guzzling Hummer would lose its exemption from the calculation, making the H2’s measly 13 mpg a regulatory liability.

The push by Hummer will make at least one fan happy: Arnold Schwarzenegger. The California governor’s environmental ethic is all about having just as much fun, without all that guilt (and pollution). An alternative fuel Hummer is up his alley, if not that of many traditional environmentalists. The conspicuous excess embodied by the giant off-road truck won’t, after all, disappear if it can run on ethanol.

I still find Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “greeness” to be unconvincing, but maybe that’s just me.

What’s New with the 2008 Hummer H2

The 2008 Hummer H2 is out, and Autoweek has your look at what’s new for 2008, and what stayed the same. Most notably, the interior of the 2008 has been re-defined, or as Hummer rep Jim Dolot puts it, “It did not give them a feeling of a $55,000, $60,000 vehicle.” Yeah, I’m gonna have to agree with that. Exterior wise, there were minor tweaks to the grille and lower front bumper, but nothing that would ruin the original “look” of the H2.

Power-wise, the 2008 H2 gets an upgrade:

General Motors also has given the H2 a hefty power boost, equipping it with a 393-hp 6.2-liter V-8 that produces 415 pounds-feet of torque. The previous engine was a 325-hp 6.0-liter V-8 with 365 pounds-feet of torque.

So what’s new for the interior?

For the first time, the Hummer SUV has a full third-row seat for two passengers and rear seat heating and air conditioning. A DVD entertainment system is available.

And for the rest:

The addition of the new engine, along with a six-speed automatic transmission, electric cooling fans in the engine compartment and other features increase the H2’s fuel economy 0.7 mpg overall, said Luke. A combination of city and highway driving is estimated by GM to be in the range of 13-14 mpg.

Hummer H2 in the Transformers Movie

I didn’t notice it before, but one of the Autobots in the new upcoming Michael Bay live-action version of the Transformers is a Hummer H2! The Hummer is the vehicle disguise for the autobot (that is, one of the good guys) called Rachet. Here’s Rachet in his Hummer H2 form, live-action pictures, toys, and Rachet as a robot. Pretty cool, huh? All the stuff on top threw me off for a moment, but this site here reminded me of it.

Transformers opens July 3rd.

2009 Hummer H3T Pictures

The folks over at The Car Connection have your first pictures of the new 2009 Hummer H3T, and they look pretty sweet. Head over there now to check out the pictures. Meanwhile, here’s what the 2009 Hummer H3T has to offer:

Although the original concept was a short-bed pickup with just two doors, economic decisions made the four-door H3 variant much more affordable to produce. The short bed will offer a cargo area of roughly 4 feet wide by 4 feet long. A hard tonneau cover will be available as an option, as will several choices of lockable cargo boxes.

Engine options will include the new 295-horsepower V-8 as first shown in the H3 Alpha, as well a 242-horsepower 3.7-liter in-line five.

Here’s a bigger look of the 2009 Hummer H3T (production begins in the Shreveport plant in August of 2008):

GM Confirms the Hummer H4 for 2010

TopSpeed, via GoAuto, has news that General Motors has confirmed their Hummer H4 for a 2010 rollout. So what will the Hummer H4 look like?

It will share its under body with another upcoming compact architecture but, the fun doesn’t stop there as the H3 sees the addition of a diesel model down under and the addition of a new H3 SUT model in 2008…

Hummer needs to maintain its 4WD reputation by ensuring that all its vehicles have a separate chassis, short overhangs, class-leading approach, breakover and departure angles, ample ground clearance and signature Hummer styling cues.

The H4 should look something like the H3 below:
